Resilience
Resilience unit follows the Penn Resiliency Curriculum which is a life skills and depression prevention curriculum for children and adolescents. The course will develop students’ personal and emotional awareness through thinking skills and group discussion. Students will consider the importance of internal dialogue and identifying thoughts and feelings both in themselves and with others. They will develop strategies to help them put things into perspective, to be assertive in their communications, to learn how to negotiate with people, to avoid procrastination and to make decisions. Crucially, students will also consider techniques which might be useful when they are faced with uncontrollable situations and strong emotions.

Movement skills
Students will begin with an experiment with a variety of sprint starts to see which is fastest for them over 3 seconds. They will then attempt a variety of long jumps to find out which can get them furthest. Students will also take part in a middle distance relay to see if they can pace themselves at a steady rate over a given distance. Pupils will have the opportunity to practice throwing the javelin using different grips to see which they prefer. To finish students will use all of their skills to take part in a multi-event where they will be both performers and officials.
After every practical lesson the students will use the computer rooms to produce a coaching/information poster or booklet linked to each of the events they have experienced. This will be used to assess the students at the end of the unit
